Love Never Fails
Love never fails. –1 Corinthians 13:8a
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. –1 John 4:8, 16
I feel this week’s blog post should come with a warning: The following post contains math. So for those that hate math, you’ve been warned! However, it’s very simple math and shouldn’t cause too much distress. Think back to high school Algebra. Remember the beginning, simple building blocks of Algebra? It included straight-forward equations like this: If A = C and B = C, then A = B. Basic reasoning, right?
God provides similar basic reasoning for us in scripture as well, if we follow the clues. He makes it clear that He not only feels love, but islove itself. God is love. Scripture also assures us that love never fails. So if God is love and love never fails, it stands to reason that God never fails. Never! It’s a testament to the power of His love; it is so strong, perfect and complete that it can never fail. This is a truth we can stand on when life’s circumstances pressure us to give in to despair and give up hope. God will always come through, though it may not be as quickly as we’d like, or the way we’d expect. The truth that God never fails also assures us that He will never give up on us. No matter how many times we go around that mountain (addictions, bad habits, failed relationships, bad career decisions), God is still there cheering us on, encouraging us to try one more time. His love is too perfect to give up on us. In fact, I would venture to say there are many times where God believes in us more than we believe in us.
Trust in His unfailing love today. Trust that it is outside His character to be able to fail you, even when the outcome isn’t what you want, even when it feels like He is taking His sweet time answering your prayer. Be assured that He will never leave or forsake you, and that He will accomplish His plan for your life, either delivering you from that difficult season or giving you the strength to endure it.
