Drink up!

As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.  My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?  –Psalm 42:1,2

We’ve all heard health experts emphasize the importance of drinking enough water. When you’re not used to doing that, it can be a challenge until your taste buds get used to it. Even if they don’t, however, often something remarkable happens after a few weeks. You taste buds may crave something else but you begin to notice nothing quenches your thirst like water. Nothing else is as satisfying; everything else leaves you a little dry. Water seems to meet an inherent need in our body. And it’s not enough just to fill up once a week. You have to drink it every day. And not just one glass per day; experts recommend 6-8 glasses per day. Every day.

Kind of like spending time with God, right? Filling up once a week isn’t enough to quench our dehydrated souls, and nothing else but being in the presence of the Holy Spirit satisfies. It’s an everyday experience that keeps our spiritual palate cleansed and refreshed. It’s talking to God throughout our day, because we are aware He is with us at every moment. It’s thanking Him and worshiping Him regularly that washes away fatigue, anger, resentment, fear and stress. That is where we draw our strength and are renewed to keep moving forward with joy and expectation.

So, bottoms up! Take a big long drink of living water today and let your thirst be quenched.
